Members of United Auto Workers Local 624 today overwhelmingly approved a national agreement with Chrysler LLC.
The workers at New Process Gear are in a unique position. Chrysler sold the plant in 2004 to Magna International Inc. To get the union's blessing for the deal, Chrysler agreed to pay workers its wages and benefits through 2011.
Those hired after the sale are paid under Magna's terms, which include lower wages and fewer benefits. In 2011, all of New Process Gear's workers will be paid by Magna.
Chrysler has offered its New Process Gear workers $100,000 to quit. It has also offered to transfer them to them to other plants. |

Don't let this one influence you. Local 624 already has a 2 tier system with new hires being hired by Magna. The current Chrysler employees can now suck up another 4 years at top tier and $100,000 to leave. They didnt sign this contract because it was a good one . They signed because it gave them another 4 years to get their $hit together. Is the janitor at NPG with 10 years going to hold that job at top tier if their yes vote sticks? (Newsgram Pg.3) |
