I loved Win 98. XP is ok. My wifes new laptop has the vista crap. It took me about 2 weeks to get it to run the way I want it to run. The laptop was way to slow, had to much junk running at once that was not needed for,,,, umm anything. After all the tweeking it runs alot faster. With Win 98, 2000 and XP I could tweek a store bought PC in a couple of hours, and new HD about 4 or 5 hours but not with vista.
I think they went way over board with it. I also think they dont understand when to much is to much. All they want to do is sell more crap.
Brian, loved that last post. They will never have to worry about me stealing a copy of vista let alone paying for it. |
sorry bout all the type-o's, long night, lol |

I'll be the first to admit, I've pirated every version of windows since 1994.
But Vista was only on my PC for 3 days before I went to a strictly Linux OS.
Vista breaks many rules of simple coding.

Vista struggles to bust out as business customers snub it
By Jefferson Graham, USA TODAY
Will Weider is just the kind of customer Microsoft (MSFT) needs to keep its Windows computer operating system franchise growing.
He oversees tech for a chain of Wisconsin hospitals — 14,000 computers' worth. But Weider has no desire to upgrade to Vista, the latest version of Windows.
"I wouldn't put on Vista if it was free," says Weider, chief information officer for Ministry Health Care. "In the past, there's always been an important reason to upgrade, but XP (the previous version of Windows) is perfectly acceptable."
Even as it pursues Internet icon Yahoo to create a more potent online-advertising rival to Google, Microsoft is facing increasing pressure on its Windows cash cow. Corporate customers such as Weider are staging a rare revolt over upgrading to Vista, which launched with much fanfare in January 2007. Last week, Microsoft reported a 24% decline in Windows sales in the third quarter.
Microsoft rebuilt Windows from scratch to create Vista, which has a dazzling interface and improved security tools. But so much computing power is required to run it that many people find their new PCs run slower than older, less powerful XP machines. To spur sales, Microsoft earlier this month said consumers will no longer be able to purchase XP as of June 30. The announcement and pending date have unleashed a firestorm of Vista angst.

I'm only going to quote just a little of the GREAT information found at the link below. Many dislike M$ Vista and plan to run XP until Windows 7 comes out.

Keep XP fresh until Windows 7 arrives
Microsoft may not have planned it this way, but XP could end up rivaling NT and 2000 as the version of Windows with the longest lifespan. According to recent news reports, Dell, Lenovo, and other computer manufacturers will continue to sell new PCs running Windows XP well past Microsoft's June 30 cutoff date.
PC vendors will do so by invoking a downgrade plan that lets them ship a system with Windows XP installed as long as the customer is also paying for an upgrade to Vista Business or Ultimate editions, either of which is included in each box.
Of course, computer manufacturers aren't the only ones looking for ways to extend XP's usefulness. One pundit has predicted that Microsoft itself is going to fast-track Windows 7 to get customers to leapfrog over the unpopular Vista and go directly from XP to the next version. In fact, according to the technology site Ars Technica, one major American corporation, General Motors, is considering doing just that. |

GM still uses XP, and is considering "bypassing Vista"
By Emil Protalinski | Published: May 14, 2008 - 03:51PM CT
General Motors (GM), the world's fourth largest company in terms of revenue, might be going down a path that would make Microsoft very unhappy. According to an interview between BusinessWeek and GM's Chief Systems & Technology Officer Fred Killeen, the company may choose to wait for the next version of Windows: "We're considering bypassing Vista and going straight to Windows 7."
The reason for this decision, according to Kileen, is that GM's software vendors haven't ensured all their programs will run on Vista and many of GM's PCs can't even handle Vista. The company would rather replace these computers later, rather than sooner. "By the time we'd replace them, Windows 7 might be ready anyway," Killeen says. Until then, Windows XP will work just fine. |
