The minivan has been Chrysler's top product for years, and Chrysler has 30% of the minivan market. (The minivan came after Chrysler nearly collapsed in the 1970s and required a government debt guarantee to stay in business.)
But sales are off because SUVs have become far trendier. The much bigger problem: soaring gasoline prices that have made minivans even more vulnerable.
"The future of the segment is up in the air," Tom Libby, senior director of industry analysis for the Power Information Network, a division of J.D. Power and Associates, told The Associated Press recently.
But Chrysler created some of its own problems. Among the biggest issues: It discontinued its smaller-wheel model because it couldn't put in all the features that were in the redesigned models. That decision now haunts the company because buyers have been put off by the higher prices required to pay for the new minivans. |

I feel Chrysler can be the "COME BACK KID" again! Although, I feel they need to listen more to their employee's because after all we are the consumers too and why would we steer them wrong, we want to keep our jobs!
As for the minivans, it makes me sick that we (Chrysler) have the room in the minivan for a middle bench seat to allow three people wide giving us a 8-passenger minivan, but we/they refuse to do it.
The government says that each married couple has 2.5 kids on average. Lets assume they go to say Great America and allow each kid to bring 1 friend.
Mom + Dad + (3) Kids + (3) Friends = 8 passengers
My family is not the norm, because we have 6 kids. Although, I wanted to use the example above to show that you don't have to have a BIG family to need the room for that 8th passenger.
END OF RANT! |

| lets say you have 2 kids, one being a newborn. by the time you load the car seat, diaper bag, toys, clothes, stroller, and whatever else you may need (no kids for me so i don't know what you all bring) you will need all the room you can get. if they can make it, then they should. what's there to lose? the vans aren't selling as it is so why not try something different. remember, change is good! we've all heard that enough! |
