I had my orientation Friday, will cover a few things that they said.
1st. They learned there lesson from the first Temp go around. Your first step into the Admin building, they have you sign a form stating you are being hired as Vacation replacement, and in agreement with the UAW, they are allowing longer times than normal, and may go past the UAW 119 day program.
2nd. Jeffery (cant remember last name) from Labor talked to us. They brought in almost 600 poeple in the last 2 weeks. 33% of them left after the first day. Out of that 33% he only had to fire 2 people, rest left.
3rd Tim Ferguson talked to us for a while. Explained that they are not 100% sure how long 2nd would be up. The company has till Jan 30th to make a decision if 2nd will be full time, or temp. If they choose the temp route, then they have till April 30th, then 2nd has to be shut down or made Permanent. If its made Perm, then they have to canvas the plant, then company, then etes, then new hires to fill it. It was made very Clear from Tim and Jeffery that if that happened, that the former ETE's would get hire rights after the company is canvased.
4th. A unnamed Chrysler lady was showing us around Dashboard under her own personal log in. Someone asked about how we get our Check stubs, so not thinking, she logged onto E-pay.....of course the first thing that pops up is what she gets paid. The screen stayed up for about 5 seconds, but long enough for people to see a bunch of checks for around $4,000 +/- 300. She was so embarrassed she left. Someone from the back row muttered out "And thats why they cant afford to pay us more than $14.65"
5th. The UAW is not for sure if the people coming in to work this go around will have to pay the $50 initiation fee or not. This went over like a lead brick. Then the 2 hours a month union dues was discussed. That went over well also. The UAW guy did a really bad job explaining why. He said the water fountains and fans and mats on the floor was all paid with these funds. He went in detail on these, then quickly glossed over that they also paid for the leaderships wages as well. Someone questioned it, and he changed the subject.
6th. They also said that there main goal is to produce an extra 10,000 calibers. Said that pretty much all they have been making lately is Compass and Patriot. Not sure if that counting what first shift is already making or not, but if second makes around 470 a night, then that's only 21 days worth. I am kinda doubting that 2nd hits those goals for a few weeks.
All in all, not alot of new info was gained. Kinda funny, I was put back at my old job up in paint. So luckily, for a short time job, I dont have to relearn some from scratch. Just have to rebuild my speed on the job. |
