I saw some "Obama is a Muslim" nonsense on this board once before, so I thought I'd share this:

Obama is clearly not a Muslim, by his own declaration.  This does, however, classify him as an apostate Muslim in the eyes of the Koran and extremists.  See the article below:

"Osama bin Laden must be chuckling in his safe house. After all, the 2008 campaign could very well give Al Qaeda the ultimate propaganda tool: President Barack Hussein Obama, Muslim apostate.

The fact that Senator Obama – the son of a Muslim father – insists he was never a Muslim before becoming Christian is irrelevant to bin Laden. In bin Laden's eyes, Obama is a murtad fitri, the worst type of apostate, because he was blessed by Allah to be born into the true faith of Islam.

There are two types of apostates according to sharia (Islamic law) and the Hadith (sayings of the prophet Muhammad).

The first type is murtad milli, one who converted to Islam and later renounced the faith. The second, and most egregious, type is murtad fitri. It refers to a person born of a Muslim father who renounces his birthright. Two recent examples of the latter are Magdi Allam (a male Egyptian who converted to Catholicism in Italy) and Ayaan Hirsi Ali (Somali-born woman who's now an atheist). Both now face death threats.

According to Islamic jurisprudence, children of a Muslim father – even an apparently nonpracticing one, such as Obama's father, and irrespective of the mother's faith – are automatically Muslims. Most Muslims around the world agree: A child of a Muslim father is a Muslim. Period.

Should Obama become US commander in chief, there is a strong likelihood that Al Qaeda's media arm, As-Sahab, will exploit his background to argue that an apostate is leading the global war on terror (read: attacks against fellow Muslims). This perception would be leveraged to galvanize sympathizers into action.

Remember: Al Qaeda's ultimate goal is to restore the caliphate (the Islamic form of government that would preside over the community of believers) and expand Dar al Islam ("Abode of Islam"). Reaching it requires a long war against all – Muslim and non-Muslim – who don't share its extremist Wahhabi worldview.

Al Qaeda, though, has struggled recently to recruit volunteers for this jihad. While bin Laden retains significant support as someone willing to stand up for Muslim concerns, most Muslims abhor Al Qaeda's terrorist methods whose primary targets are innocent noncombatants.

But an apostate as head of the United States could change this equation. It would be a propaganda boost for Al Qaeda's mission. All one has to do is read Al Qaeda's public statements to recognize how frequently it makes baseless apostasy accusations against fellow Muslims who challenge its message or actions."

Why does any of this matter??  I'm so sick of people basing their candidate on religious grounds.  Bush pandered to the religious right in 2000 and 2004, and where did that get us?  People should be looking at the important factors, like policy and ideology instead of focusing on all this nonsense.

apostate
1. One who has forsaken the faith, principles, or party, to which he before adhered; especially, one who has forsaken his religion for another; a pervert; a renegade.

2. One who, after having received sacred orders, renounces his clerical profession.

Unfortunately, the 1.8 billion or so Muslims in the world take it very seriously, and they include the leaders of many Muslims nations that Obama has said he wants to "work with."  Religion may not matter with you and many others here in the West, but it obviously matters a great deal with a LOT of other people in the world.  Unless one believes we will suddenly begin to live in blissful national isolation.  Don't count on it.

If you read the entire page you will see that those lies are from the author of that internet hoax. and not Mr. Obama.
Religeon should not be used as a wedge as many are attempting to do. It's the same old Republican scare tactics that won't work this time.

The Christian Science Monitor publishes internet hoaxes?  Actually, what I posted is based on what the Koran and Muslim tradition teach, not any political maneuvering.

Obama may think he can talk to these Islamic leaders, but many if not all will think of him as an apostate, just because he "betrayed his birthright."
Muslims comprise almost 1/4 of the population of the earth.  That's a lot of people believing that our president is the worst sort of traitor.

Then again, maybe they will ignore their Koran and embrace Obama.  After all, he's on a roll.

BTW I was refering to the snopes page on the previous post when I was talking about internet hoax, if you read the entire thing it dispells many of those rumors and misquotes.
I don't get much of my political news from "the christian science monitor" they tend to snuggle up to the far right scare tactic machine that we see being played out here. IF OBAMA IS ELECTED TERRORISTS WILL BE UNHAPPY!!!! Guess what, they aint gunna be happy no matter what.

Well, The Christian Science Monitor didn't write the Koran, which, like I said, about 1/4 of the earth professes belief in.  It predates "Right Wing" modern American politicos by about 13 centuries.

They won't have any more respect for Obama than they do for Bush, unless he renounces his claim of Christianity and publically embraces Islam.  Otherwise, in their eyes, he will remain a "murtad fitri."  It serves to ratchet up their loathing.

A person doesn't need to be Democrat or Republican, Liberal or Conservative to see that.

Not worried - just saying that it will more than likely be much harder for him to "talk to them" like he says he wants to.

It is true, like you say, that none of them will be happy with us, regardless.  I think Barak needs to recognize that.  A world Caliphate is what the radical fundamentalists want - and they number in the hundreds of millions, and the number grows by the day.

Anyway, have a great weekend, funguy!  A pleasure, always!
