I found out today that the TAA funds were denied and the folks at the Unemployment office were very surprised.  They were informed about this on Monday.  Supposedly, Chrysler will appeal.  ETE's are getting screwed once again.  Yikes!

This is probably one of those dumb questions, but what are TAA funds?

The day I got home after my first meeting I did a seach on the site. Chrysler has applied for TAA funding 3or 4 times in the past. It ws denied each and every time.

In the meeting they made it sound like it was a done deal. LOL

Sounds like some of our first dealings a year and a half ago.

Mission Empowering displaced homemakers to achieve economic self-sufficiency and independence in a competitive workforce—through education, training and employment.

Who Are Displaced Homemakers?
Displaced homemakers spent time taking care of their families and have lost their primary means of income due to divorce, separation, loss of a spouse, and disabled or unemployed spouse. These traumatic events leave individuals (primarily women) with little or no resources after years of taking care of their families.

How Does the Program Work?
This statewide program distinguishes itself by emphasizing personalized counseling and professional development to assist participants in finding careers that will economically support them and their dependents over the long term. Through a friendly and hassle-free environment, individuals access life-skills development, assessment testing, career readiness workshops, mentoring programs, skills training, support services, job development and placement services.

For the government to deny TRA/TAA benefits, it would have to find that the company did not lose any business due to foreign competition.  Does anyone seriously believe that Chrysler has not lost business due to foreign competition?

A Body shop Material's person told me we are sending daily shipments of Caliber hoods, door, etc. to Venezuela.  Is Chrysler planning to build the Caliber in  Venezuela?

The caliber HAS been built in Venezuela for the last year and a half. They are built in kits we send to them. They have the capacity to build between only 50-100 a day. Atleast thats what was told to us at our SMART training meeting by our beloved plant manager.

Here is a link to Dick Durbin's contact page.  Everyone please mention the Taa, and let him know your feelings.  If anything else ask if we can camp in his yard when the foreign countries move into our houses.

A cut-n-paste text for the lazy to use contacting Durbin/Obama:

Dear Senator (fill in name):

I am facing a mass layoff with my co-workers from the Belvidere Chrysler plant next week.  We were informed by the union that the request for TAA/TRA funds was denied.  What we believe is undeniable is the fact that our job loss can be directly linked to foreign competition in the auto industry - which is the very criterion for TAA/TRA eligibility!

Please help us in whatever way you can.  Thousands of us will soon be without work, and we could REALLY use those benefits.

Thank you.
