I could not get in under my name so I in under Risa. Connie

"Research indicates that isolating the teaching of grammatical and mechanical skills from the writing process does not significantly increase children's writing abilities." I loved that!!!
This chapter contained many good "pieces " of advice for teaching the ESL learner as well our English speaking students. Some of my favorites: *Consistent opportunities to hear, read and write extended text in order to become familiar with English and text structures.
* Use pattern writing
* Frequent and consistent opportunities to participate in the writing process
*Pay close attention to vocabulary development
Another interesting part of the chapter was the statement that stated that effective writing programs are ones that frequent opportunities to plan, compose, revise and edit! We all know that but it sometimes hard to accomplish. Wouldn't it be great if we could have all classroom having frequent opportunities to do just that?
This chapter made me miss teaching first graders!
