There are a myriad number of ways identity thieves can steal your ID today. And by Americans NOT protesting the use of the Socialist Surveillance Number... I mean "Social Security" Number for identification, we have allowed ourselves to be further victimized... at least until your National Identity Card is made into a microchip and implanted in your skin.
But, that's another topic. What I want to share with you right now is a way you can protect your credit from identity thieves. The cost? Probably thirty dollars for extra protection. Let me explain:
You can "freeze" your credit information and when you need access to your credit, you can "thaw" your credit file with a special code that only you know. Imagine that! Identity thieves or others wanting confidential information on you are locked out when your file shows up as being locked. Without the special code, they are blocked and S.O.L.
Thanks for the info Enforcer, I am doing this today not only for myself but for other family members as well. _________________ "You must become an advocate of what you believe otherwise, you will become a victim of what others want you to believe" - author unkown
I just learned of something that all of you should know about the above before implementing it. Please pay close attention to what I'm about to say:
Many rules and regulations which affect the rest of society do not apply to hospitals. For instance, I once lay on a table in a hospital in critical condition following a car wreck. The hospital would not touch me until they put a lien on my home. For most of us, in the real world, we would need to go to court, prove a person owes us, etc. BEFORE getting a lien. But, back to this issue:
Some hospitals and related health care givers will not perform services sometimes unless they have your current Socialist Surveillance Number... I mean "Social Security Number" AND you have a clean credit file, which they check the day of surgery / procedures. They will turn you down if they cannot confirm your ssn / credit history... SO
Today, you must check to make sure you can "unthaw" your credit file in 15 to thirty minutes or so. That way you can prepare for this contingency. True, hospitals cannot turn you down for emergency, life threatening treatments, but if your life isn't in immediate danger, they can and will (in many instances) cancel your surgery / medical procedure if they cannot verify ssn / credit info.
Call the numbers to freeze your credit, but make sure to ask if you can unthaw the file for emergencies like the above.
