In a word, SPIKE is essential.  I myself have not yet completed the program, but the two (of twelve) phases I have completed have left me with a plethora of knowledge that has helped me feel more secure in my ability to take care of myself and my family when TSHF.

If you have any more detailed questions, inquire with enforcer.

Here is a link to the video portions of the program:

http://www.bogritz.com/training.htm

As some of you may know, our XO is a bit miffed over the video part of S.P.I.K.E.  The Militia of Georgia got permission to convert the program from video to VHS after Gritz abandoned the project.  Apparently, once his people found out there is still interest in the program, he began selling the DVDs.

Anyway, we paid for the converting process - which wasn't cheap at the time.  We had to get a VHS to DVD converter and a high speed machine to churn out the DVDs (and all of it was first gen stuff that didn't work too well.)

For the time being, we are no longer offering the DVDs - except to members for loan (and they can use their computer to make their own copies.)  We will be offering the actual program (books, the videos, and hands on training) and that will be discussed this Sunday at our meeting.

One final note:  Gritz no longer sells phase 8 of the S.P.I.K.E. program.  We do offer it.  Membership has its advantages.

I don't remember everything that's in them, but the one part that was popular wasdefensive methods to defeat SWAT tactics and those pesky JBTs that may kick your doors down.

We pretty much felt the same way, so we only share the S.P.I.K.E. program with people who are joining the militia.  Unfortunately, virtually everybody who wants the video portions will join and once they've purchased the DVDs, they forget our names and who we are.  In essence, most people only want to drop the money so they can get some instant gratification and think they are some kind of DVD trained Spec Ops operator.

Our XO has been working on the written portions of the material for several months so that when we have training sessions the students will not only have the DVDs and the personal instruction, but you will have the written portions of the program (and Gritz doesn't have the written portions nor does he do the classes any longer.)  So, it all boils down to how serious you are as to how valuable the information may be.

My feeling is that after so many people took advantage of the hard work the guys put into converting the VHS to DVD video project, it will be difficult for those people to get the written portions and / or attend the live seminars when they're offered.  So, that's just something to think about.  At our next meeting, and the public can attend by invitation, we will discuss the future of the S.P.I.K.E. classes.

SPIKE = Specially Prepared Individuals for Key Events

Developed by United States Special Forces units the training is the same program administered to DELTA Forces.  Initiated by Lt. Col James Bo Gritz for civilian militia units SPIKE remains the only course of its kind.

The live seminars were taped in the 1980s and later converted to dvd by the militia in Ga. and now the written materials are being slowly put into hard copy.  Only one complete set of the written portions has been located and it consists of thousands of pages of material.

Video portion is over a hundred hours long.  Some of us have been working to update the entire program and add new tecknologies  I am sure that if there is any interest to be found we will use this board as a way to help people with an intro to our version of SPIKE.  You can check the link in Enforcers post for details on the video part.

Copies of the seminars can be purchased from Bo Gritz.  I think they are around the $250 - $300 range.  Bear in mind that this is for the classroom instruction only and does not include the written materials.

S.P.I.K.E. is the equivalent of a college degree in Spec Ops skills.  Having watched the videos, read the books, and attended Field Training Exercises (FTXs) I personally think that anyone who dishes out the money for the DVDs with no intention of doing the other hard work simply has a lot of money to blow and will do little more than give themselves an adrenalin rush from watching videos.  Be that as it may, if all you want is the DVDs, then Bo Gritz sells them.  If you want to do the training (and MOG will offer an independent study curriculum leading to a well earned diploma) then you've got to join the militia.  So, the choices are:

1)  Join the militia and enroll.  In the end, the PROGRAM costs substantially more, but is spread out over six or more months, depending upon how fast you want to advance yourself OR

2)  Buy the videos and convince yourself that watching DVDs will make you a competent citizen - soldier

Here's Gritz's link:

http://www.bogritz.com/training.htm

Oh yeah, a third possibility:  Buy the DVDs and then months later you decide you need a real study curriculum and a method of measuring your competence and progress.  Then you join the militia and spend twice as much for not taking choice # 1 first.  I'm not trying to be condescending, just realistic.  I do what I can to get people NOT to buy the videos alone.  It's a lot of money and serves little practical purpose without the reading assignments, the individualized attention, and periodic testing for competency levels.

Just a quick update on S.P.I.K.E.

We've looked over the materials over and over, trying to decide how to use the program to its fullest potential.

Here is what we came up with:

Our version of the program will use the existing videos AND in addition, a LOT of additional material will be included.  Bear in mind that technology has changed a lot in over a decade.

Further, Gritz did not do a complete job on the philosophical aspects, legal training, political / psychological warfare instruction, and historical training needed to understand the when and whys of resisting evil.

The MOG program will be a degreed program that you can take and complete via individual study.  Tests will either be online or by mail.  And once you've completed the training, you will know more than 90 percent of the people out there.

Now, we need someone who can help us build a website and do a little desktop publishing.  Any volunteers?

For the moment we don't have any SPIKE dvds for sale.  Rpoe on the board along with freeandclear are trying to put the dvds on a smaller space and turn the current 36 or so dvds down to about 12 to 14.

Of course, that will take manpower and money... something the three of us won't be able to underwrite alone.

So, after the first of the year, the people in charge are going to look at where we are:  what you want, who is committed to a given idea, and what we should take on.

If we had a hundred or so REAL members, we could re - do our entire training system and put out updated dvds.  The Gritz videos are more than a decade old.  There's a LOT of technology to update.  AND the dvds also have THOUSANDS of pages of text... something we are trying to put onto cds but, again it's money, manpower and time... things we have a severe shortage of at the moment (but, you could help us change that.)

If you haven't voted yet (and if you're reading this, you can vote in this election) send me a PM and I'll forward the ballot to you.  And come January, some real decisions should be forthcoming.
