gear-who provides yours

As a member are you provided with your gear ?
if so is it just the basics ??
and as the leader or commander of your organization what are your thoughts  on issuing required equ?

we started out requiring everyone supply there gear and not showing up with out the basics  as a minimum

after seeing the equipment being used we decided to begin issuing equipment  and found that every member was better prepared (after all i want the person beside me to be as prepared as i am )

anyway i guess the next question would be how is that possible with the cost of gear on the rise and most peoples financial situation  getting worse

answer : its all member supported ...we collect no dues or membership fees of any kind however we do collect a one time registration fee that goes in to general fund then 4 times a year we take a collection from members they are kept anonymous (lets face it some have money some do not )these donations tell me two things one who is dedicated and willing  to do what is needed and who is loosing interest (but thats another lesson)

as a commander looking to try this there is a few things to keep in mind

1.the best time to take collections

1-1 bonuses most company's hand out bonuses and you should have a good idea when this happens in your area

1-2 income tax time -we all no why

1-3 mid summer -most have already taken vacation and will soon begin thinking of all the money they will be spending on the holidays that are growing closer

2.shortly after the first of the year put out a list of gear you plan to upgrade along with any other items that will be drawing on your bankroll  (its called a news letter ) but we already new that keep it updated that way when that last donation point comes around your men will have a clear understanding of whats needed --and trust me they will come threw for you

3.find a dedicated supplier some one who understands what your after and who you are

3-1 this person must be able to supply your men from head to toe

3-2 with reliable up to date gear

3-3 on a consistent bases

3-4 this person must also understand there not going to get rich of your business with them

and finale they must be trust worthy

(if you want introduced to someone contact me privately THIS IS NOT A AD)

THE REASONS FOR WANTING YOUR MEN BETTER REPAIRED ARE OBVIOUS

THIS IS NOT A FULLY DETAILED PLAN BUT SOME GENERAL INFORMATION

now a few other things to keep in mind when your handing out gear

1 -when you get a new member don't dump a bunch of gear on them (been there done that ) and you will loose allot that way

2-conduct inspections -some men are slobs and will need to be shown how to care of there gear -(again been there it does happen)

3-do not make them sine for it --in fact im sure everyone already knows the (no records policy )

4-not every person will need every piece of gear look at what each unit /group or person will be tasked with

example a specialized fast moving unit dose not to be waited down with e-tools tents and 5 gall watter cans (again iv seen it ) and its not pretty

well thats my little contribution and again its not meant to be a well laid out plan but rather a starting point to help you help the men under you better help me when needed  Wink

any questions??

I like the advice.  Thanks for the post!

In my few years of being involved with things, I've sent a few people some basic stuff that I paid for without asking to be paid back.  One person did pay me back, which is always nice.

I found some great deals and decided to share with those to me that were in need.

The basics I sent were:

medium ALICE pack
pistol belt
1 qt canteen with cover
D cel crook neck flashlight

I wanted to SHOW the people that I would do whatever I am ABLE to do to help out before the poop hits the propeller.   After all, I DO live in the SHOW ME state....lol.

Everyone in our CIDG is responsible for their own gear. A few of us, myslef included do keep on hand a basic setup, simular to Oscar Mike's loaner kit, for total newbies  to borrow.
