ok this is a gear & logistics question.
I have several different types of AK mag Pouchs: 1- E.German rain camo 4/mag pockets, 2 OD 2/mag pockets + oil bottle & cleaning kit pockets, then I have 2 OD canvas Brit M58 mag pouches that will hold 4 mags if I stuff the 4th one . I know that at a min. one should have at least 5 mags for a MBR.
What would yall think, opt for more ammo or opt for more other needed gear(food , meds ect, ect)?? |

I've got an IDF vest that I modified to hold 200 rounds on strippers. No mags allowed here, that detach on my MBR!!

Someone needs to take back Commie-fornia and reclaim it for America!
What would yall think, opt for more ammo or opt for more other needed gear(food , meds ect, ect)?? <--- If you really need to have that gear in a poop hit'n the propeller situation, my question would be: If you run out of ammo, is the other stuff going to be so important?
Suggestion: learn what "native americans" used in nature for med stuff as well as wild edibles for food. It ain't like you're going to find extra ammo laying in the woods or growing on trees. _________________ Don't Tread On ME....lest my fangs wind up in your foot ! |

For a mag fed rifle I prefer 4 mags on my LBE with the remainder of my ammo load out being on strippers in bandoleers with a mag charger.
The ammo load out would totally depend on the mission. and would range from 100-200 rounds. _________________ Semper Paratus |

Back when I was a young devil dog. A common combat load would be any where from at least 6 mags up to, for some, a stagering 15. I myself would opt for anywhere around 8-10 mags It should be plenty even in harsh times. So long as your not blind fireing or spraying and praying. I guess some good advice would be to only use mag pouches that you can put and take mags out easily, and to strategicaly place them some where easily reached by both arms. And low on the chest so the weight from the rounds don't set you hunched forward after wearing it for a wile. Another great and inexpensive artical of gear was my drop pouch. With this thing you can easily and most importantly quickly retain all of your spent mags in the middle of your reloading sequence. This way you don't have to spend time going back and looking for your mags or trying to find new ones. as far as medical and food supply. every one had there own med pack but it was only useful for first aid on burns and deap punchre/lasarations, with a tornquit and some anti bactirial stuff. If it were anything seriouse the doc was called up. And most guys like to use the camle backs for water, even the smaller ones can give you just enough refreshment on a hot day in heavy gear. I hope this was helpfull. _________________ So we shall flow a river forth to thee, and teaming with souls shall it ever be. |

You can't ever have too many spares though. Eventually some are going to become un-serviceable, but I also like extra ammo on strippers. Easier to carry and less bulky.
ALSO: in the not too distant future you can count on hi-cap mag bans along with many other items we will need. Stock Up Now !!

Roger that on the need to stock up on high cap mags. Also start thinking about a weekly commitment to buy a box or two of ammo if you own an SKS or AK type rifle.
Here is an article on AK type carrying rigs:

I realize that some of you don't like hearing this, but you should carry a couple of 20 rounders with you as well. They will not be in your way during prone shooting; the 20 round magazines will allow you to keep pointing at possible targets without the extra weight of a 30, 40 or larger cap magazine. Weight is a serious consideration when you're aiming a rifle for extended periods and / or when you get tired. With a 20, you've got high capacity and lower weight. |
