Martial law declared, society crumbled, can't follow paved roads for some reason. What ever the reason, how would you get to where you need to or want to? During the depression hobos rode the rails and could get anywhere that way. During martial law hopping a train probably won't be an option. However by moving parallel to the tracks and avoiding towns you can get anywhere. "Well Mr. Smartie Pants" you say, "How do we know where the railroad tracks are going?" Because you went to the following website and downloaded the railroad maps for your state and a couple of surrounding states and put them in your "bug out bag" (don't forget to laminate them).
Well, if you own a horse or two or a jackass, that is another way where you can avoid roads. The important thing is to plan where you want to go while things are somewhat normal and check out how to get there before hand.

That means gathering intel is probably the most important and easiest thing to do for right now so that you know what and where and how your going to travel.
I also recommend, you and friends or fellow militia get yourself several things.
1. decide NOW, where you will meet outside and say at 4 pm the day after the SHTF. From there you can exchange information that I will discuss further down.
2. Buy walkie talkies, good ones and when you meet exchange access information so you can talk without anyone else getting on.
3. Invest in $30 to $50 prepaid cell phones as well. When you meet exchange the numbers.
This way when it does come down you are not alone and without communication abilities. Once you have done that, then you can do from there.
I have 7 people here and none of them know who is part of the group. We are giving ourselves handles like "scratching chicken" hahahaha etc. and that is how we introduce ourselves so no one can tell on anyone else if questioned. You honestly don't know who everyone is.
Only one person knows them all and that person has to be willing to sacrifice themselves if there is potential they might get caught. They cannot afford to be caught. Important as heck. anyway, these are just some ideas.
What is important is that we all have to start thinking outside the box. Be creative, non traditional. innovative. That is going to be the key and for gosh sakes REMAIN UNKNOWN. Without that your a target.

Additionally, it is a relatively simple matter to find someone who can make ID for you that would pass to do business with private industry and individuals, but certainly would not pass muster with the LEO community.
Unfortunately, the right wing (which has attracted a lot of patriots) is being used to help outlaw the underground economy. Getting from point A to point B without the ability to obtain supplies along the way, under those circumstances, might prove to be quite the challenge... just something to think about.

That is why its so important to stock up. If food is an issue then try to begin stocking up with big bags of wheat and get a manual wheat grinder. Buy cans of butter. You can get them on the internet because the body needs fat or oil to process protein. better also get cans of fruit and veggies.
I have a huge bucket of natural sun dried salt that I intend to use for bartering. I also have 2 years supply of food. It fills up a whole room. LOL
I have a steripen water treatment system for drinking river water as I now live on a river. The collapse is coming in about 6 to 10 days I just heard, but then rumors are rampid right now. Something is coming down shortly.
