I was researching the pros and cons of 9mm.  Actually, I heard that the military was considering going back to 45 ACP in their service pistol choices.

In any event, I found this link:

http://www.recguns.com/Sources/VG1.html

I'm still interested in finding out about the best 9 mm ammo since the Israelis use the Uzi - and there are some U.S. made Uzis along with a Chinese version available in the U.S.

If you have any thoughts on self defense ammo (especially after you read the link) please post on this thread.

FWIW, I happen to agree w/the author on the Federal Hydro-shok for sidearms.  And it's true, the US military wants to go back to the .45 ACP, but they don't want the John Browning design....what they're thinking is, I have no idea.

As far as which is the best "man-stopper", I was in the 9mm club when the US military first went to them because it was a HUGE step up from the S&W M-15 .38 Special "Combat Master" we were armed with.  I subsequently owned two 9mm pistols - a pre-contract Beretta 92 Compact (later to become the Officer's Model in the USAF) which I sold while overseas and a Glock 17.

Both were nice pistols, but in '94, just as I was thinking about retiring from military service, I was able to participate in some training that demonstrated to me that the .45 ACP was a superb man-stopper and would serve me better than the 9mm.  So, I traded in my Glock for a 1911A1 and have never looked back.  Ever.

I also use 230 gr Federal Hydroshok almost exclusively.  I've got some Corbon as well as some other "high speed, low drag" ammo that I tinker with from time to time, but when it comes to getting serious, I load the mags with the Hydroshok.

My two cents....

Personally I reload with Remington Golden Sabres 115 gr and 147 gr. Most of the major brands of HP , Federal , Winchester, Hornady  are all good for personal defense. I chose Golden Sabre because of some info I read off the internet concerning wound ballistics. If you've ever seen the tip of the Golden Sabre you would understand......MEAN.  I just purchased some Winchester SZX 9 and .45 Personal Protection HP ammo that is Lubalox coated just to have some "Factory" ammo on hand. Bass Pro had some on sale.
Ammo is all about personal choice and recommendations. You now have mine.
