About every 4th of July I wind up getting mad. You watch the tv, listen to the interviews, see people on the streets... and quite frankly, most of them don't have a clue what this holiday is all about.
Those in the military get all puffed up like it's all about them; some folks were even promoting commie MLK and his "I have a scheme" speech (which, most likely, is a product of plagiarism as were most of his speeches.) Well, let me tell you something:
I thank God for our military and take the time to go and shake the hand of uniformed soldiers I cross paths with in public. We have an Armed Forces Day and a Veterans Day. We even have a Memorial Day. And as far as liberals like Martin Lucifer King, Jr. go, that gentleman did more to undermine the principles upon which this nation was founded than ANY man hiding behind the "Reverend" moniker in the history of the United States. But, make no mistake about it, July 4th is NOT about any of those people nor the role they've played in this country's history.
On 4 July 1776, fifty six men stood up to the greatest nation on the face of the earth and proclaimed their independence from tyranny. They pledged to each other their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.
Today, if you told people in the military that they would have to stand against the strongest superpower on the face of the earth and be called upon to chance giving up all their assets, perhaps their lives, and have little chance at victory to boot, I wonder how many of them would show up for work the next day.
Of course, the modern militia hasn't fared too well on that issue as well. MANY of them have been known to abandon their friends at the first sign of trouble; some are flipped by King George the Bush and work against their militia brethren; others jump like grasshoppers from one side of the political fence to the other.
But, the reality is the fourth of July is about people who believed they had a God given RIGHT to resist the evils of tyranny and proudly proclaimed that they believed that RIGHTS were bestowed upon each person by their Creator (i.e. their God, whomever they deem their God to be.) The day is NOT about the American military... no American nation existed nor did any organized military forces. July 4th is more about the militia than it is any of the modern trappings the media and those wanting to usurp OUR holiday promote.
Resistance to tyranny, promoting God given Rights, along with the commitment to liberty by those willing to give up their worldly possessions and comforts are what the holiday is about. That's my stand. Hope you had a good 4th and learned something from my rant. |
