This board is dedicated to helping you save money and get out of debt. It's been a while since some good money saving tips were given out, so pardon me while we rectify that situation.
We spend a lot of time behind the wheel in this day and age. And we all know that the right amount of air in your tires and rotating the tires will increase your mpg, but I found out that the old way of buying tires wasn't the smartest thing I have ever done.
Did you know that tires have a shelf life? I didn't know it. And a lot of cut rate tire stores will sell you tires which are dangerous... life threatening dangerous! Just in case you DON'T watch the video (I'm leaving a link at the end of this thread), let me tell you one small thing:
Tires begin to deteriorate after about six years, regardless of whether or not they have ever been mounted on a car. And each tire has a four digit - stand alone number on them that will tell you WHEN that tire was manufactured.
The tire's date will be in the form of a four digit, stand alone code. The first two numbers will tell you the WEEK the tire was made and the next two digits tell you the YEAR. As an example 0407 would tell you that a tire was made in about the last week of January or the first week of February of 2007. The code 5208 would mean the tire was made in December of 2008 (there are 52 weeks per year.) Check out the link... it may save your life:
