I hope all is well Sultan!  Just thought I would stop by for a spell and see how you are all doing.  The initial primary results are proving interesting. Historically Val Stevens is enjoying what might prove her most decisive victory ever.  Word is the State Dems are spending a bucketload of money to defeat her but to no avail...

The governor's race is very close.  I saw a bumper sticker the other day that read, "Re-elect Dino for Governor!".  Got a good laugh out of that.

Anyhoo, I had some requests come my way to open this old forum back up so I will give it a shot for a bit and see how we do.  Please try and behave as I won't be in here all that much to monitor the content.  Enjoy and have fun!  Smile

So do you think that Rossi will actually win the race? I just don't see that happening.

I agree Rossi faces a tough battle - the Primary results clearly show that.  Look for the campaign to get increasingly testy though.  Gregoire has legitimate weakness - the State budget, while not in crisis, is facing some serious challenges and there is growing concern that we will see various tax hikes coming following this election cycle. This has not yet been covered to any real extent by the regional media.  Also look out for some stories regarding her rather secretive and one-sided deal with the tribes.  That one has been swirling for a few months and could build momentum in coming weeks.

That being said, Washington State has not voted for a Republican governor since...1980?  I also don't see that changing anytime soon.

Well what I would really like to know is what you think about the Stevens and Walser race.  Do you think Walser even has a chance of winning?

NO.  What some don't seem to understand or be willing to admit is that Val Stevens has an incredibly loyal base of support in the 39th.  Stevens is both tough and honest in what she believes in.  I recall a conversation with a Dem in the last election cycle who described Stevens supporters as "stupid hicks".

I disagreed with that sentiment quite strongly.  Stevens' base is comprised of conservative leaning family values types who are sick and tired of an ever-increasing tax burden and liberal social engineering attempts drenched in PC poppycock.

Garnering nearly 60% of the vote though - that is quite impressive.  Stevens has to be quite pleased with that showing as well as the vast majority residing in the 39th...

Not sure about our state democrats but the national democrats are sure putting on a heck of a nice show! I thought Hillary did one of the best speaches I heard in a long time.  She really should be the one getting nominated.

It was an amazingly organized convention.  While it lacked in substance, the power of the presentation cannot be denied.  It appears most are remembering what they saw - but little is being recalled as to what was said.  It will be interesting to see if this helps or hinders the race going into the final stretch when the heat really gets turned up.

McCain's announcement of Palin brushed the Obama speech aside so short term it was a highly effective move.  Can she hold up to the scrutiny and pressure of a national campaign?  We shall see.  I find her to be a very interesting individual with great potential - well spoken, strong willed, intelligent, and conservative.  Not a bad combination.  The Obama campaign is working overtime now trying to come up with an effective strategy in dealing with her on the ticket.

As for the single best speech at the Dem convention -hands down Bill Clinton. The modern master at the top of his game.  Son of a gun that guy is good.

It has been a great political season with some worthy choices.

That line of logic would then suggest that Obama is too young, no?

Age should have less to do with it vs experience, character, vision, and strength, etc.

Both candidates have their strengths and weaknesses.  To simply rule one out over the other because of age is a too narrow scope by which a choice should be made.

No different than saying you will vote for one because they are a Democrat or a Republican.

God do I tire of that line of thinking...

Not to mention McCains mom is like 94 years old and has been running around the country with him on the campaign. McCain looks like he could easily have another 10-20 years in the tank easy. Not sure a I care for his VP pick though. Where the heck did that come from?

Maybe you should look up the word irony because that is what is raining down on the republicans heads this week! Another hurricane to remind the whole country how they screwed up last time and cost lives and money.  Do we really need four more years of that kind of stupidity?  No way.

Vote Obama.

Vote Change.

McCain used the "Obama is an empty suit" platform for quite some time, then he chose a 44 year old Governor with just a little over 20 months experience.

Granted, Regan was 70 when he was elected and by the time he left office his age was showing. (See, I did pay attention in your classes Mr B...) We are realistically looking at McCain being 80 when he leaves office if reelected for a second term......

Yeah eaxcept that Mcains vice prez pick has more experience then Obama who wants to be president. I still think Obamas lack of experiecne is still a issue.  Just like Mcains age is an issue. If he does serve both terms no doubt he will be one old dude. But Obama also has zero experience at all. I heard about 140 days as a senator. That is it! He does give a good speech though and seems like a good guy.I don't like his VP choice though. That guy is creepy. Mcains VP pick is a hot momma!  Razz
