Looking at the 2007 schedule, it appears Roos only have two Friday night games all season except possible (likely) finals. South however have a huge amount of Friday night games. Are Friday night games preffered or did we ask for less of them? |

Roopena have 3(Rounds 8, 15, 16).
Been ages since I went to a game of footy but I'd be more likely to go at night than in the day. |

Three if you include round 8, but that isn't a senior fixture, that's only the 14's and 17's.
The 17's and 14's don't compare to a League night game.
Therefore the A Grade and B Grade only play two.
So many would more would be inclined to go to a League night game, rather than an under 17's and under 14's night game.
So that's my reasoning in saying Roos only have two true League Friday night opportunities, compared to say South, who have at least four. |

Hows it going?
I have no thoughts on night games, I am there regardless of who is playing.
There is one thing I want to say tho.
Trailblazer, you say that the under 14's and 17's dont compare to league games.
I totally disagree with statement.
I wanted to umpire the under 18's final last year and was very chuffed and happy when I got that opportunity. I was not interested in A grade or B grade.
Some of the best games that I have seen have been in the Under 17's. These guys are younger, fitter and some have just as much footy nous as the older blokes.
Indeed in the future of your footy players these are the guys you should be watching, they are your next A grade players.
Sorry you feel so ripped off in regards to your night games, but one way to look at it is that in the middle of winter when it is so darn cold, wet and windy where would you rather be?
At least on Saturday and Sunday there is a chance of some sunshine, which would bring out more supporters, many of us hate being cold.
Out on the ground who cares? You guys are running around keeping warm.
It would be interesting to get a look at how many numbers do come through a gate on a Friday night, because it seems to me I dont see half as many people at night games that I do at day games. |

I value junior footballers as much as anyone, and I AM deeply involved with the juniors at our club.
Sure, their is much talent, i concur, but the spectacle is nowhere near the same, although entertaining, but no where near the same.
That's why league is called league or A grade and under 17's is considered thirds.
Secondly, ripped off, i do not feel, but still, if one club has four night fixtures to another clubs two, regardless or whether the takings are higher or lower, one club is still at a disadvantage?
Yes? |

Fantastic! There should be more people out here who are! Too often I hear, Juniors dont matter...Under 14's and 17's (hard to call a 17 year old a junior when they are almost a man) dont count and only become interesting if they are good enough to go straight to A grade or play B grade. That really gets up my goat and upsets me a great deal.

Sorry poor choice of words when I used the term "ripped off".
How are you disadvantaged? Is it easier to play at night? The ball is a lot more slippery from the dew, the chances of rain are higher (I made that one up, but it does make sense), it is colder, the lights are blinding in certain places.
I realise that I may not be seeing your side, I am trying to but perhaps I am missing something.
Now I dont know and can only surmise, but perhaps the League also see Friday night as a Non Event (as such) and so one team got 4 night games compared to anothers two games, because that team had not been progressing so well over the last couple of years, and who could have predicted the turn around?
Your club would know if they had been asked by the League which they preferred, find a willing Committee Member and ask them to divulge the information, then come back and tell us |

the thing about friday night games though is that it is a great chance for the clubs to make more money.
the league has done the right thing this year by reducing the number of sunday games, because not only do sunday games take money away from the clubs because they reduce the number of people back at the club but not many would honestly enjoy playing then having to work the next day.
i believe the way of the future has to be to play friday night games every week and the remaining two games both played on saturday. its got to be about the clubs and helping them with money more so than the gates getting more money through day games?? |

Point taken, and acknowledged.
Playing on a Sunday really cripples your weekend plans.
Saturday night is meant to be party night but with a game the next day your weekend is cut so short.
People spend less time at the club and thus spend less money also.
Friday night and Saturday games are the way to go.
The odd sunday can be played on a long weekend or something. |

I Coach South Whyalla's U/17 team
Roopena can have all of our Friday Nights games next year. We would rather plan on Sunday or Saturday (Dream draw)
Friday night games don't help us at all. I don't how club's are surposed to make any money over the bar when the last game finishes at 10.30 pm on a Friday night! |
