Is it so, that I need a certain number of posts to view most stuff in the forum?

It's just a defense mechanism for some of the more private stuff, babe. You can't view the stuff in some of the General threads until you've been here for so long, so n00bs can't just walk in and start nosing about in private conversations and issues. Try commenting on stories and such to build up your count, then you can go in and we'll know a little something about you by then.
